CD Fundraiser For NAMI

On August 23, 1977, Paul MacCready's plane, the 55-pound Gossamer Condor, took flight above a California air strip, powered by a human bicyclist.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA. ~ Denny

Bozman-Moss,

who teaches at Sonoma State University and the Santa Rosa Junior College, and Sarah Baker, who have performed blues and jazz in North Bay for decades, have combined their talents to produce a CD titled, “Sarah and Denny Sing Songs for Children and Families” with proceeds from the sales going to support the local chapter of NAMI, National Alliance on Mental Illness. The CD with songs in Spanish and English has many children favor- ites like the Peter Pan classic, “I Won’t Grow Up” or the ever popular “DeColores” or “Down by the Bay.” The CD also comes with a print out of the lyrics of all 23 songs. Bozman-Moss, a Sonoma County resident for more than 27 years, said Baker was the catalyst for the CD, “It wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for her.” But both agree it was a labor of love for a cause they both support. All of the songs are appropriate for children of all ages. The CD and songbook are available at the Sonoma County NAMI office on E street in Santa Rosa (100 E Street, suite 214), across from the public Library. Or for those who simply want to contribute to NAMI on-line visit: www.NAMISOCO.org

The iPod originated with a business idea dreamed up by Tony Fadell, an indepen- dent inventor. Fadell's idea was to take an MP3 player, build a Napster music sale service to complement it, and build a company around it, Apple hired Fadell in early 2001 and assigned him a team of about 30 people, including designers, programmers and hardware

they possibly do to overcome a chimney-descending wolf. Quick! Drag that pot of boiling water and voila!, adversity is met. These pigs are good! Not only did they think fast, they also joined forces and com- bined their resources to enable a triumphant action.

The celebration of the three brothers, holding hands in a circle and singing, “Whose Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf” is a universal favorite. They have not only met and over- come the dark forces, but stout hearts have gained courage and friendship from this encounter. The story pops because it provides us with meaning.

It

allows us to ponder and deal with crucial life issues like growing

up, leaving home,

dealing with danger, and pre- senting models of behavior that demonstrate resolution, unity, and bravery. It makes us ques- tion and wonder, think and con- sider. It stretches our possibili- ties and imaginings. It is why children—instant critics armed with threatening measuring sticks of loss of attention and boredom—will take out their favorite story and plead, “tell it again!”
