The Opening Reception will be held on Wednesday, March 5th from 5-7pm. The reception will feature a per- formance by Nueva School of the Arts students from their spring performance of Elmer Rice’s Pulitzer Prize winning play, Street Scene. The play takes place on a hot June eve- ning in New York, and in front of an old brownstone walk- up apartment. The individual fates of eight neighboring 1920s Hell’s Kitchen families intertwine during this brief stretch of time. The gallery is going to be set up like a mini museum with artifacts and articles from the era collect- ed and curated by the Nueva students. Come to meet the student artists and enjoy light refreshments.

Admission to the show is

free but donations are always appreciated. For further infor- mation, please contact (707) 838-1020.

Final Facts & Trivia -8

The Slinky® debuted at Gimbel's Department Store in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1945. Richard James, the inventor, was skeptical about how the Slinky® would sell. All his doubts were put to rest when all 400 Slinkys® for sale were pur- chased in 90 minutes. Since then, over three hundred million Slinkys® have been sold worldwide.

Early sunglasses served a special purpose and it wasn't to block the rays of the sun. For centuries, Chinese judges had routinely worn smoke-colored quartz lenses to con- ceal their eye expressions in court. It wasn't until the 20th century that modern-type sunglasses came to be. In 1929, Sam Foster, founder of the Foster Grant company sold the first pair of Foster Grant sunglasses on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City, NJ. By 1930, sunglasses were all the rage.

In January 2014 Jim & Dara Kany went on a group trip to New Orleans with Meadowcroft Winery, located in Sonoma County. We are standing in front of "Antoine's," one of the oldest surviving restaurants in New Orleans, located right in the French Quarter. It's a must see. Several of our presidents and other famous people had meetings and meals here since 1840. Also, this is where the famous Oyster Rockefeller was introduced. We took Upbeat to show off our wonderful "no bad news," news paper. -Jim & Dara Kany, of Rohnert Park
