FISHING Shearwater began as a fishing resort and they are still going strong. Here you will find saltwater sports fishing at your doorstep, with several secret spots located within five to 45 minutes of the resort. Your fishing trip can be fully guided, semi-guided, or unguided; it’s up to you.

Shearwater’s world-class fishing charters have produced spectacular results with Chinook or King salmon topping 72 lbs., Coho or Silver to 25 lbs., and Halibut to 200 lbs. If you love to fish, this is the place to do it. Fish for up to 12 hours, then come back to the comfort of hearty meals and VQA wines, while your catch is filleted, vacuumed packed, and flash frozen for your convenience.

hiStoRy unfoldS heRe Shearwater was an anti-submarine base in World War II and was purchased from the government after the war. A 120-foot long mural is painted on the side of the original RCAF hanger and there is a waterfront war memorial commemorating the area’s veterans and the community’s history. These “United in History” projects were commissioned by Shearwater Resort and Marina President, Craig Widsten, to honour his father and all those connected to the area.

Muralist Paul Ygartua worked closely with the Heiltsuk First Nation and the Denny Island Com- munity to capture the faces of history. The mural includes faces of the aboriginal chiefs, elders and immigrant pioneers who made a significant contribution to the establishment of the greater Bella Bella community and its historic development from the 1800s to recent times.
