DRIVER AWARDS BANQUET WAS A GREAT SUCCESS
Little America Hotel was the beautiful
location for the Annual Utah Trucking Association and Utah Safety Management Council Driver Awards Banquet. More than 230 attendees enjoyed the Opening Social then moved into the ballroom for a deli- cious dinner. UTA Executive Director Rick Clasby welcomed everyone and introduced the special guest in attendance. The 24 Drivers of the Month were
awarded their trophies by Terry Smith, UTA’s Director of Safety. Larry Luke, C.R. England and Utah Truck Driving Championship Chairman presented the awards to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place win- ners from this year’s Truck Driving Championship as well as Rookie of the Year and Pre-Trip winners. Allen Lowry, Central
Refrigerated Service and TDC Committee member presented the TDC Grand Champion Awards. He was followed by Kent Madsen, Occupational Health Care who presented the TDC Team Trophy to FedEx Express. Craig Payne, Safety Manager, Barney Trucking presented the Safety Supervisor of the Year to Sherrill Hansen, Safety Director at Parke Cox Trucking Co. The Trooper of the Year Award was presented by Ryan Jones, President of R.W. Jones Trucking to his friend Cpl. Randy Allred- Utah Highway Patrol. Scott Godfrey, Godfrey Trucking and UTA President presented a new award this year the UDOT Motor Carrier Industry Partner of the Year to Dale Schultz from the Perry Port. The final award was the

Growing up in Millard, Colorado Carl inherited a true love for
horses and in his spare time you can probably catch him enjoying a ride or spending time in the great outdoors hunting and fishing with his sons. Carl is also very involved in the community; he received his
Eagle Scout award at the ripe age of 14 and has participated for many years as a Scout Leader. His vast career experience includes: hauling cattle, refrigerated, vans and for the past 25 years he has specialized in running flatbed. His passion for his job shows in his hard work and dedication to the industry while his clean driving record proves his safe driving habits and professionalism. Once while driving from Tonopah to Ely, Nevada, Carl was the
Driver of the Year Carl Butch Talbot of Parke Cox Trucking It is privilege and honor for the Utah Trucking Association to
present the 2013 Utah Trucking Association Driver of the Year, Carl “Butch” Talbot of Parke Cox Trucking. This driver has had an amazing career and safety record with 4 million miles driven and 40 years of service. He has accomplished this without a single reportable accident. Carl currently resides in St. George with his wife of 32 years, Lorrilee. They have five wonderful sons, 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

first to arrive at the scene of an overturned. He kicked in the windshield and was able to pull the driver to safety, and then transported him to the hospital for medical treatment. On anoth- er occasion he was driving along Highway 50 in Delta, Utah and noticed a car turned on its top. He pulled over to assist and found two adults and two children hanging upside down in their seat- belts. He was able to help them out of the vehicle and took them back into town. Just as Parke Cox Trucking feels grateful to have him as a driver
in their fleet, so do these citizens who when they were in severe need of help, our driver was alert and ready to offer assistance.
