AVENUE Q Raucous, rowdy, raunchy and a total blast, Avenue

Qhas been described as “Sesame Street meets South Park.” The winner of a Tony “triple crown” for best musical, best score and best book, this gut-bustingly hilarious, modern musical focuses on a group of unique 20-somethings making their way in the big city and seeking their purpose in life. This uplifting experience raises essential funds for the 100 women at Desert AIDS Project, a program dedicated to helping women and children liv- ing with, affected by or at-risk for HIV or AIDS have longer, stronger lives filled with love and happiness. To improve the view for all audi- ence members, those who hope to succeed Palm Springs TV reporter/anchor Bianca Rae as the next 2013 Dancing Desert Star, will showcase their best moves on an elevated dance floor this year. All of the action will take place at the Renaissance Hotel Palm Springs on Friday, November 22. Eight competi- tors—four women and four men—will each dance twice with their respective professional dance partners and compete for the coveted title and mirrored ball trophy. News anchor- man Gino Lamont will have to be on his toes as host of this year’s event, as will his co-host, drag performer Randy Roberts… thought he’ll have the benefit of those six-inch stilettos he wears so well. Million Dollar Quartet was inspired by the famed recording session that brought together, for the first and only time, rock n’ roll icons Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins. On December 4, 1956, Sam Phillips, the “Father of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” gath- ered these four young musicians at Sun Records in Memphis, for what would be one of the greatest jam sessions in history. This electrically-charged produc- tion highlights favorite songs such as “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Fever,” “That’s All Right,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “Walk the Line” and “Hound Dog,” while interweaving a unique story of broken promises, betrayal, secrets and passion. Performances take place Tuesday, November 26 through Sunday, December 1at the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert.
