by ken knox Heat Bar and Kitchen has seen many incarnations over the years: a half-


laundromat/half-Chinese restaurant duplex, a Vietnamese eatery, a computer shop, a furniture store, a coffee shop and, for the last two years, a healthy eatery specializing in fresh, organic produce, fresh catch and “green” grass-fed beef. With the launch of its Egyptian Bazaar and Movie Night, Heat hopes to add yet another title to that list: community movie house. Located in the heart of San Diego’s Egyptian block, which is found on Park


Boulevard between University and Robinson Avenues, Heat is a neighborhood hangout and destination spot for friends and community members to gather and a place for new friends to meet while conversing over politics, travel, food, drink and any number of sociable topics. Created to realize owner Sam Korish’s vision of “community serving community,” the restaurant was intended to offer a “cultural experience” to its patrons and bring people together. To Korish, it’s only fitting that the establishment evolve into an occasional theater. “I think this is the perfect event to get people interested in this area of town again,” Korish says. “It ties into the history of the neighborhood because Park Boulevard used to be the
