• An experienced corporate recovery and insolvency specialist from Hampshire has joined chartered accountants Chantrey Vellacott DFK. Matthew Fox has been appointed a partner in the business recovery division and will operate out of the Southampton office. Fox has strong experience of the property and construction sectors and working closely with banks to help restructure underperforming businesses or those in distress. He joins following 10 years with BDO and is a southern region committee member of the Association of Business Recovery Professionals (R3) and a fellow of the Insolvency Practitioners Association.


• The TJ Group, a waste management specialist near Portsmouth, has signalled the next chapter of growth with an enlarged board of directors. Senior figures have been promoted to oversee the expanding company, which has 120 staff, a fleet of 80 trucks and 3,000 business customers across Hampshire, Dorset, Sussex and Surrey. Operations director John Gosling (second from left) has become managing director, slotting in to the previous role of founder Terry Higgins (second from right), who is now group chairman. Neil Glazebrook (left), previously transport manager, is director of TJ Transport and Jamie Higgins (right), who was operations manager, is now director of TJ Transport and TJ Waste & Recycling.


• EMEA is the growth target area for David McCarthy, new sales director at Southampton-based IT services and recruitment provider aap3. He joins the flourishing global business with a proven track record at previous companies of achieving expansion worth tens of millions of pounds. His career includes managing director and group sales and marketing director at Neo Interactive Group, an IT company for retail and government.


• CBRE in Southampton has promoted development specialist James Shelley to associate director. He joined CBRE’s development department early in 2006 to work alongside senior development director Mark Budden. Since joining CBRE he has worked on strategic land acquisitions, disposals and valuations as well as advising clients on medium or long-term development opportunities across the South Central region.


• A marketing professional in Hampshire has been promoted at the South Coast office of accountancy and investment management group Smith & Williamson. Samantha Greenwood (left) has been appointed marketing manager at the 50-strong practice in Southampton following spells as marketing executive and marketing co-ordinator. Greenwood, who holds a professional certificate in marketing, organises events and sponsorship deals in Southampton, Bournemouth and Portsmouth. Chloe Willcox (right) has been recruited as marketing assistant.


• AbuBakr Bahaj, professor of sustainable energy and head of the University of Southampton’s energy and climate change division, has been appointed editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Marine Energy, a new journal devoted to publishing research and case studies relevant to all forms of marine and ocean energy, such as fluid mechanics, design, environmental assessment, regulations and policy.

• Eric Robinson Solicitors has strengthened its family law team by appointing matrimonial and childcare specialist Nigel Hawkins. Previously with Abels Solicitors, where he was a partner and consultant, Hawkins has been a member of the Advanced Panel of the Law Society since its inception, holds SRA Advanced Accreditation for Private Children and Ancillary Relief and is trained in collaborative law and family mediation.


• Lester Aldridge has appointed Lindsey Watkin as a partner in the real estate team, based at the firm’s Bournemouth office. Watkin has been involved with commercial property deals for more than 20 years across a wide range of sectors, including office, industrial, marine, energy and waste-related businesses. She is particularly recognised for her expertise in complicated property transactions to tight timescales and finding pragmatic solutions to issues which may arise. She also specialises in commercial landlord and tenant work.
