RBS south technology team expands to drive deal success

Robin Barnes, regional director – Solent and Thames Valley corporate – announces the expansion of his south technology team.

Roland Emmans, head of the team is taking it from strength to strength with the addition of Alex Croxford as business development director and Ben Pearce as business development manager.

The new members expand the team to eight people in total, purely focused on technology and telecoms business across the south of England

Alex Croxford has spent the majority of his career working in the asset finance market, specifically the technology asset finance arena and has held both relationship and business development roles with firms such as Siemens Financial Services. Croxford was recently a business development director within Lombard Technology Services, Lombard’s dedicated technology asset finance business, working closely with the south technology team on a number of successful transactions. Croxford has significant experience of the technology sector and conducting complex asset finance deals. As a business development director, he will support the identification and development of new clients across the south of England.

Ben Pearce joins internally from the mid-corporate team where he worked as a relationship banker for 12 months. Prior to this and further to graduating with a degree in law, he spent 18 months working for RBS as part of the large-corporate team in Reading. Pearce describes himself as a “tech geek“ who likes nothing more than writing a bit of computer code or rebuilding a PC for amusement. His technology passion is perfectly suited to his research role, allowing him to get under the skin of key sectors and businesses. Pearce has already

produced his first insightful report into the key themes influencing the mobile market, which has been well received by clients.

Commenting on the appointments, Roland Emmans, head of south technology team, said: “We are delighted to welcome Alex and Ben. They are great additions to the team bringing new perspective and depth to an already experienced team. The technology and telecoms space is a key area of focus for us given the sectors ability to drive growth in the UK economy. These appointments underline our desire to grow our business and add new clients.“

In addition to the new joiners the team has been very busy and over recent weeks. RBS has closed the refinancing of Microfocus plc, as well as delivering for a new client Anesco. The RBS team worked with Anesco, the UK’s leading energy efficiency solutions company, to develop a bespoke expansion funding package.

“In an environment where banks are readily criticised, we’ve been really impressed by the way RBS and its groups of companies have engaged with Anesco,“ said Adrian Pike, CEO of Anesco.

“RBS wanted to learn and understand our business models. They showed

real knowledge of the sector and provided products that will save the company money in the short term, while providing a platform for us to grow significantly over the next five years.“

In addition to the day-to-day banking the team and RBS (as event sponsors) are also taking part in the Byte Night (www.bytenight.org.uk) sleep out in Forbury Gardens Reading in October in aid of Action for Kids. Byte Night is now the leading charity event for individuals and teams from the IT, technology and innovation sector and hopes to raise over £1 millon from this year's event. The team is looking forward to the challenge and hope to raise £3,000 plus, so any sponsorship or cake buying would be most welcome.
