• Leading Newbury and Thatcham-based law firm Gardner Leader has employed three paralegals as the business continues to grow. Claire Andrews (left), Elinor Clifford (right) and Kate Lewis (centre) will work closely with the firm's residential property, litigation and family teams respectively, to support the partners and solicitors in those teams. Grass Roots Meetings & Events has appointed Hannah Wilkinson as client services director. Wilkinson previously held a senior role at Zibrant, where she was responsible for managing a team of account managers; overseeing and leading the development of pharmaceutical accounts; and the delivery of a key event – the Healthcare Meetings Forum. This appointment is the latest of several within the events businesses and the Grass Roots Group. • Leading corporate and private client law firm Manches LLP is further expanding its Oxford office this month with the arrival of two qualified lawyers. Kathy Hills (right) joins the firm’s corporate team in Oxford as an associate and tax specialist with five years of post-qualification experience. Hills is an expert in UK and international tax and advises commercial clients on corporate tax, VAT, pensions, employment and SDLT property tax, as well as tax relief schemes and entrepreneur tax. She joins from Blake Lapthorn in Oxford and is well versed in all areas of business tax advice, including employee and director share-option schemes and complex cross- border international tax. • Chartered tax adviser and chartered accountant Penny Bowen has been appointed by Shaw Gibbs LLP in Oxford to manage the personal tax team. In recent years Bowen has been honing her skills working with professionals in the dental sector assisting them with tax advisory services such as determination of the financial savings on building works, practice acquisition or disposal, and practice incorporation, as well as tax compliance. She has also specialised in assisting clients with questions about the NHS Pension Scheme. She trained as an accountant and qualified ACCA, and subsequently went on to work in the higher and further education sectors, running course programmes and lecturing in accountancy, tax, finance and management, having also qualified as lecturer. Her return to accountancy practice focused on the taxation of high-net- worth individuals, many of whom ran owner-managed businesses. Bowen is currently working towards the STEP Diploma in Trusts and Estates to enhance her skills.
