Expanding the Lexus range
The latest model to join the Lexus range, the new GS 300h arrives at Lexus Reading this month
Part of Jemca Car Group, Lexus Reading will have GS 300h demonstrators available to test drive in the coming weeks and the order book is now open.
Following on from the success of its IS 300h sibling, which arrived in UK showrooms in July, the GS 300h has been designed with the senior executive in mind and Lexus expects its buyers will be predominantly fleets and businesses.
With emissions of just 109g/km CO2, an impressive fuel economy of 60mpg and no NOx and particulate emissions, the new GS 300h incorporates luxury features, premium finish and sophisticated styling.
The GS 300h will be a hot contender for business drivers with its band B vehicle excise duty and for those looking for a head- turning executive vehicle without the accompanying higher benefit in kind (BIK) brackets more typical of its conventionally powered counterparts.
At the heart of its engineering is an engaging drive and dynamic performance with accompanying powerful brakes and sharp, accurate steering for agile handling, excellent body control, high-speed stability and the kind of ride comfort expected of a Lexus. The GS 300h F Sport will be available with additional elements to sharpen ride and handling, including active variable suspension.
The spacious cabin has been designed with the driver’s needs at the forefront incorporating an ergonomic, dual-zone driver cockpit and use of advanced HMI technologies designed to help keep drivers alert as well providing easy, intuitive operation of controls and access to information. Other features include an S-Flow energy saving air conditioning system with integrated climate management and nanoe technology; a second generation remote touch interface linked to one of the world’s largest on- board information displays; and a choice of audio systems offering unparalleled power and clarity.
The GS’s comprehensive array of active, passive and preventive safety features is being further extended, with the addition of a rear cross traffic alert, which alerts the driver to vehicles approaching from either side when reversing out of a parking space.
Lexus Hybrid Drive
Powered by the latest generation Lexus Hybrid Drive, which achieves significant reductions in fuel consumption CO2, NOx and particulate emissions, with no loss of performance, the new GS 300h combines a 105kW/141bhp electric motor with a new 2.5-litre, 133kW/178bhp four-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol engine, equipped with next-generation D-4S fuel injection, dual VVT-i
intelligent variable valve timing and high-efficiency exhaust gas recirculation.
As with all Lexus hybrids, the new GS 300h is a full hybrid that can be driven in petrol or purely electric modes alone, as well as a combination of both. The high- performance electric motor works in tandem with the petrol engine to boost acceleration, and powers the driven (rear) wheels on its own when the vehicle is running in EV mode. During regenerative braking, the motor also operates as a high-output generator, recovering kinetic energy as electricity to charge the hybrid system battery so plug-in charging is never required. At rest the engine automatically stops to conserve fuel.
The Drive Mode Select system increases the vehicle’s capabilities beyond the Normal driving mode:-
• EV mode – the vehicle runs almost silently on electric motor power alone, which means zero fuel consumption and tailpipe emissions
• Eco mode – maximises efficiency and fuel economy
• Sport/Sport+ mode – boosts full hybrid system performance
• Snow mode – modulates throttle response to give the best possible traction and stability when pulling away on slippery surfaces.
The Lexus Hybrid Story

• At the top of the range, the LS 600h made its debut in 2007 and remains the most powerful hybrid vehicle on the road today
• The fifth Lexus hybrid is the luxury compact CT 200h, launched in late 2011
