compete to win Judges for the Haines Watts Young Entrepreneur of the Year (HWYE) competition 2013 are currently interviewing shortlisted candidates, all of whom have submitted excellent applications – making the task very difficult

John Bailey, chairman of the judges at Haines Watts, said: “We have had some very talented and proactive young candidates, who show that the entrepreneurial spirit in the Thames Valley is alive and kicking. This competition will reward those with a good business concept and plan for the future, as well as qualities such as innovation, creativity and business potential.”

Increasing numbers of young people are setting up their own businesses in a climate where university tuition fees, high rates of interest on student loan repayments and scarcity of jobs continue to be of concern. The Higher Education Statistics Agency reported recently that a fifth of graduates are

unemployed or in unsalaried or low-paid posts six months after leaving university. Some may wait years before securing meaningful employment, despite having racked up huge debts at university.

John Bailey adds: “It is encouraging that we have a strong contingent of future business leaders in these young entrepreneurs, who have taken control of their own employment. Haines Watts started this competition to support them in their endeavours.”

The selected finalists will receive a cash prize and free advice on all aspects of running a successful enterprise. This includes year-long mentoring sessions from Haines Watts.
