• Penningtons Solicitors LLP has recruited partner Maria Riccio and associate Rupert Graham-Evans to lead its newly- established pensions law team. They will be based in the firm's Basingstoke office but will also support the firm's London and regional offices across the South East, advising clients in the UK and internationally. Riccio and Graham-Evans join from Bond Pearce in Southampton where they headed the pensions capability. Both lawyers have experience in all types of UK- based pension and life assurance arrangements, including defined benefit, defined contribution and hybrid occupational pension schemes in the private sector and statutory schemes in the public sector. Serving a broad client base, they represent employers, charities, pension trustees and intermediaries. Although their practice primarily has a non-contentious focus, they are also experienced in contentious pensions work and have been involved in several significant High Court cases.


• Lexus will make its ‘marque’ in business in the Thames Valley, M4 Corridor and north and west London areas with the extension of its corporate sales business following the appointment of two B2B managers. Jas Dhand and Charlotte Costello both take up the position of business sales specialist with Dhand located at Lexus Reading in Rose Kiln Lane and Costello at Lexus Edgware Road in North London. The appointments coincide


with the arrival of the new IS 300h, set to be a company car favourite. Dhand joins from the Nissan Business Centre in Reading so brings a wealth of knowledge of the extensive Thames Valley and M4 corridor area. With 20 years in automotive retail, the majority working in the corporate sales sector, and a stint looking after Hendon FC’s facilities, sponsorships and events, his business knowledge and contacts are extensive. Working alongside Dhand at Lexus Edgware Road is Costello who has also clocked up around 20 years in business sales after starting as an administrator. She spent a number of years with the Ford Motor Company and large retailers Inchcape before moving to Conrico, specialists in supplying military and aid organisation vehicles for overseas work.


• PwC has continued to expand its Reading practice with a number of new partner and director promotions. Christine Dobson and John Howarth have been promoted to director within the assurance practice and Peter Almond within consulting. Chris Boreham and Matthew Hall have both been made assurance partners. These are just some of the people who have been promoted within the team together with a number of managers and senior managers across the practice in Reading. The firm is also currently recruiting for graduates and A-Level school leavers to join the 350-strong Reading practice in September 2013.

• Professor Andrew Harrison has been appointed chief executive officer of the UKís national synchrotron Diamond Light Source (Diamond) with effect from January 2014. Based on the Harwell Oxford Campus in Oxfordshire, Diamond is operated as a joint venture between the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) which holds 86% of the shares, and the Wellcome Trust with 14%. Having been director general of the Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL) neutron source in Grenoble, France, since 2011, Harrison brings 30 years of scientific leadership to the organisation. He grew up in Keele and graduated from Oxford University with a degree and DPhil in chemistry. After


working as a Royal Society university research fellow, he joined Edinburgh University in 1992, becoming professor of solid state chemistry in 2000, and was founding director of the Centre for Science at Extreme Conditions in 2001 before joining ILL in 2006 as science director.


• HR software pioneer Fairsail today announced the appointment of a new CFO as part of a large recruitment drive. Nick Harber will join the Reading- based technology company, bringing with him expertise from a successful 17 years in the accounting industry. With a background in corporate finance, successfully advising growing companies on business


planning, fund raising and financial modelling, Harber was attracted by the company's exciting growth prospects. He will be applying his expertise to help develop the business strategy for Fairsail, enhance the quality of information provided to investors, and ensure that the business can achieve its growth potential without hitting any internal bottlenecks.


• HMT has appointed Peter Wear (top left) as associate director, joining the firm's award winning corporate finance team. Wear brings a broad and diverse breadth of experience, both in a Big 4 environment with PwC, and also on the other side of the fence as financial director of a notable SME.


HMT also recently promoted Paul Read (top right) to the position of director. Read is a due diligence specialist and has led countless DD assignments for both VC's and banks, delivering timely in- depth advice that clients have described as "invaluable" and "first class".
