Haslams secures agency on The Blade
Haslams has secured a joint agency at The Blade, Reading’s landmark office tower owned by Aviva Investors
Following an agency pitch earlier this month on the 110,000 sq ft 14-storey block in the town centre, the agents appointed are now Knight Frank, who have been retained, alongside Bray Fox Smith and Haslams.
Julian Cobourne, asset manager at Aviva Investors, said: “There is a lot of interest in the building at present as the market improves and we felt it was time for a new push and a change in the marketing provision."
The building, which Aviva developed with PMB Holdings, launched in 2009. Around 35,000 sq ft is now occupied.
Emma Goodford, head of South East offices at Knight Frank, said: “The Blade is a fantastic building that is experiencing increased interest as tenants are becoming increasingly prepared to sign up for the best in quality."
Tenants are: Hays Recruitment and Roc Search, the UK research outsourcing firm which occupy 11,095 sq ft between them across part sixth and seventh floors; Kaplan
Financial, the educational firm which signed for 14,000 sq ft on the ground and first floors in October 2009; Urban Science, which occupies 8,200 sq ft on the 12th floor; and Megabyte.
The building offers floors of 8,190 sq ft with the capability to sub-divide to suites of 2,350 sq ft.
Neil Seager, partner at Haslams commented: “We are delighted to have been instructed on Reading’s only iconic office and we look forward to helping Aviva add to the tenants already in occupation. Outside of London there are very few offices which are landmarks. The Blade is certainly the exception and its status is unique.”

Prime minister opens Polythene UK’s new fully-sustainable office building
David Cameron was guest of honour in Oxfordshire to officially open leading packaging expert Polythene UK’s new fully-sustainable office building.
Winner of ‘The Oxfordshire County Council Energy & Environment Award’ at the 2013 Oxfordshire Business Awards, Polythene UK is already recognised as the most environmentally- friendly commercial entity in the polythene industry.
The company’s new offices, based in Witney, are equipped with a complete first-class, renewable system, making them fully self-sustaining. On top of this, the company is the sole distributor of Polylite, Polyair and Polycomp – three packaging products that provide exciting environmentally and financially-beneficial alternatives to standard polythene.
The new 8,000 sq ft office building has a 25 kW Solar PV System that delivers 22,000 kWh of electricity per year. It is this system that powers the 300 litre Ecocent air to water heat pump, the two 25 kW Air Source heat pumps, the 26 Thermovec radiators and the LED lighting. All systems were designed, manufactured

and installed by Oxfordshire-based manufacturer Earth Save Products.
Alongside this, Polythene UK is reprocessing rainwater through two water butts, recycling all of its paper, envelopes and printer cartridges, and has fitted Econospeed into all of its delivery vehicles to save on fuel by 15% while also reducing wear and tear.
The company’s achievements tie in neatly with one of Cameron’s first declarations as prime minister – to create ‘the greenest
government ever’ and he gave much praise on the company’s green-mission during his visit. He said: “The new office building is fantastic and I am pleased to hear just how environmentally friendly it is. With both its new offices and products, Polythene UK is certainly proving its green credentials and I hope other UK businesses will feel inspired to follow in its footsteps.”
James Woollard, managing director at Polythene UK, commented: “It’s been an absolute honour to have David Cameron come down to open the new sustainable office building. It’s fantastic that we’re being recognised for our green efforts.
“CSR is becoming a key trend within the industry right now and we’re lucky enough to be able to help our clients carry out their green agendas by providing real green solutions. Consideration for our impact on the environment will continue to be our main focus from both operational and industrial viewpoints.
“We fully intend, as an industry leader, to set the environmental standards for others to follow. Our mission is to be as carbon-positive as possible, which is why we’ve heavily invested in the new fully-sustainable office building as well as product innovation.”
