Procurement opportunities Think Digital
Technology tools to build business
The steps a business can take to become a social business and the advantages to be gained from that were revealed at the Think Digital Scotland conference hosted by Glasgow Chamber of Commerce. Stuart Macdonald, Founder and Managing Director of Seric Systems, outlined how businesses can use social media and other
digital tools both internally and externally to boost business performance. Mark Hunter of Postable outlined the use of social media to distribute content in forms such as blogs and Twitter, build conversations with potential customers and then convert those leads into new customers.
Paul Fletcher of the University
of Edinburgh Business School discussed how SMEs can build innovation into their business and challenged the businesses present to act on it. The speakers were three out
of a range of digital, marketing and business experts, who updated delegates on the latest tools and trends in digital technologies to enable businesses to trade, save, grow and influence key stakeholders. The event, chaired and
introduced by Tim Wright of twintangibles, was held as part of Scotland’s Technology Show at the SECC.

Cost Expert
Take control of your business costs with a free service for members
Glasgow Chamber of Commerce has launched Cost Expert (formerly Chamber Plus), a free service for members aimed at cutting indirect business costs. Due to the growing demand from our members to assist in reducing costs, we now have a team of experts who will review, audit and manage the procurement process for you, saving you both time and money, while you focus on your core business. Cost Expert will bring together the
buying power of all of our members to ensure you are on the best rates with leading suppliers. This valuable new member service has launched with an initial campaign around water, energy and fuel usage as these areas have seen significant price increases and have caused concern to a lot of our members. The service will include a full analysis of your current spend and rates to identify potential areas of savings. The energy campaign provides a
free energy health check as well as a contract reminder service to ensure you never roll over into a new contract without renegotiating the rates first, that your bills are accurate and that you never get ‘out of contract’ rates. We will also carry out a full audit on
your water rates as the reorganisation of the water companies and the complexities of pricing structures have caused several businesses to be paying too much. The audit will also check bandings, waste water charges, potential leaks and meter sizes. The Cost Expert service will also
cover costs such as business rates, telecoms, e-commerce, stationery and postage, fuel, food and more.
