GO GLOBAL WITH HELP

C

hambers of Commerce are recognised around the world as leading supporters of international trade and Glasgow Chamber is

no exception. Founded in 1783, it has been a proponent of international trade for the last 230 years. About 30 per cent of Glasgow Chamber’s

existing membership base of 1,500 is involved in international trade and these businesses are supported by a platform of services, including: » Documentation services » Leters of credit service » International trade helpdesk » Training and development » International trade forum » International trade events » Foreign exchange services » Policy and lobbying. As Glasgow Chamber celebrates its 230th

anniversary of supporting businesses to trade locally, nationally and internationally, it will be delivering an international trade event which will focus on the ‘how’ of international trade. It is a given that to support the recovery from the current recession and to ensure long-term prosperity within the UK, there needs to be more emphasis on exporting. However, despite an increase in businesses in the UK actively

exporting goods and services, a number of challenges, barriers and obstacles remain. Te Chamber’s international trade event

will provide practical support, information and advice to businesses currently trading internationally and to encourage those businesses that have not yet begun trading internationally. As well as keynote speakers from the industry, there will be a range of workshops and an exhibition promoting the support services of key intermediaries and stakeholders. Te event will focus on providing answers

to the questions that businesses trading internationally face every day. Tis will be done under the banner of four key themes. Each theme will be debated within an interactive workshop supported by a panel of experts and each zone will be supplemented by exhibitors linked to that particular theme. Te four zones will be: Money – covering support from financial institutions and the public sector; Markets – accessing new markets, cultural awareness, e-commerce; Skills – qualifications and training, workplace support; and Challenges – bureaucracy, documentation, changing legislation and taxation. Tis inaugural international trade event will be held on Wednesday 28 August at the Tistle

Glasgow Hotel, Cambridge Street, Glasgow and will include opening and closing keynote speakers, interactive thematic workshops, intermediary and stakeholder exhibition stands and a networking lunch. Te event is aimed at businesses currently trading internationally, businesses interested in beginning to trade internationally, freight forwarders and logistics companies, public sector support organisations, and financial and educational institutions. Delegates atending will debate the issues

impacting on the establishment and growth of international trade businesses, hear from leading international trade businesses, participate in interactive workshops, access support, advice and information from a range of experts and network with a range of international trade businesses and intermediaries. It’s a great opportunity to get the support you need to grow your business internationally.
