We are here... P
regnancy is a very emotional time, with hormonal activity triggering mood swings and the expectation that mother will cope with her newborn. In general many mothers-to-be have many anxieties about whether they will be good enough.
There is very little emotional support offered and the chance to discuss any negative feelings can slip past and sometimes lead to depression. Perhaps you feel you cannot keep talking to your partner or other members of your family as they have heard you tell it all before, so maybe talking to someone who has not heard your worries and concerns would help.
After baby is born the ‘baby blues’ might turn to post natal depression, this could be the time that you need to talk and it might be preferable to speak with someone in confidence who is not judgemental but who is able to share how you are feeling. Post natal depression can also affect partners as well, this is a turbulent time for all involved in baby’s arrival.
Herefordshire Samaritans provide a 24 hour service for all who are in emotional distress which may lead to suicide. You can talk to them at any time about any subject either by phone, email or text. Samaritans information is available in the accompanying advertisement, so if you feel you need another person to share things with then contact us now.
