Fantastic locally based charity striving to expand its services
Megan Baker House is an established Herefordshire based charity that offers holistic, conductive education to children with cerebral
palsy and adults with early onset Parkinson’s. The charity has been running for more than ten years and has helped hundreds of children, adults and their families, mostly from within the counties of Herefordshire and Worcestershire, some from a little further afield in the Midlands and the South West, but also others that have travelled large distances to benefit from the wonderful help provided - including from Truro in Cornwall, Aberdeen in Scotland and Teeside in the north east.
Based in a dedicated and specially kitted out centre near Leominster, and with a number of highly skilled staff, MBH offers incredible help in quite wonderful surroundings. The caring atmosphere can be felt as soon as you enter the building, a delightful modernised barn conversion. Like many charities these days, MBH

is entirely reliant on the generosity of its supporters, on the donations it receives and the grants it is able to attract. In 2011 it was able to attract a major grant from the National Lottery ‘Big Lottery Fund’ which enabled MBH to launch its new Reach Out project which aims to establish conductive education classes in five schools and five community-based venues within the surrounding areas whilst continuing its work at its current base.
Even in the current financial climate, it has a real desire to expand the work it undertakes but recognises that some families will struggle to travel to the Herefordshire countryside to take advantage of the skills available there. So a scheme that allows MBH to take the conductive education out into the communities it serves should help many more people, young and old, who can benefit from the help it offers but who are unable to make it to Megan Baker House on a regular basis.
