The importance of making a Will... C

ouples with young children will not want to contemplate the possibility of both of them dying before their children have grown up. Fortunately it does not happen very often, but it can. Making appropriate provisions in a Will can give you peace of mind that your children will be cared for according to your wishes and avoid family discord at a very difficult time.

If both parents of a young child die, it is likely that their extended family will take on the role of bringing up the child. It is important to give your chosen carers the legal status of guardians to avoid any possible legal wrangling.

Money to be held until the child grows up will go into a trust and trustees will need to be nominated in the Will. It is advisable to appoint at least one trustee who is not a guardian to ensure that your child’s interests are best protected.
