New baby & pets
B
ringing a new baby home is an exciting and challenging time for the family and for the family pets. Spending some time in preparation in the months leading up to the birth can be extremely valuable.
• Both dogs and cats are affected by changes in the environment including the introduction of new items such as prams.
Allowing your pets to familiarise themselves with these things before the baby comes will help.
Me time W
• Make sure your pet is healthy and is up to date with vaccinations and worming.
hen is your ME TIME? Being a good mum, good wife, seems to be more important than being good to ourselves. My lovely Nan has always told me “If you don’t take care of yourself, you cannot truly take care of anyone else” as you continue to run on empty! Do you think it could be time for you to look after you?
Ladies, we must make time for ourselves to be the best mum or wife. Sit down and have that cup of tea and ENJOY it, no thinking about the washing or ironing. Go for that well deserved massage with no guilt and return to your family refreshed, ready and wanting to give your best.
As they say "You’re worth it!" Love and Laughter x Small Steps 25
• Start leaving your pet in a suitable room and use baby gates to separate them.
• Keep the baby off the floor if the pets are around.
• Use a desensitising sound CD of baby noises (eg. Sounds Soothing from Sound Therapy for Pets).
• An excellent book is “Your Dog and Your Baby” by S.A Kent.
