The London Masonic Bowling Association

T

he long awaited Outdoor Lawn Bowling Season managed to get

off to a good start with the first Match played at the Bushey Bowling Club on the 9th May. The result was a draw but the overall shots difference was in favour of Bushey. There were divided loyalties as some LMBA members were part of the winning Home Team! The annual match that was scheduled to be played at the Watford, Herts BC., having been cancelled due to a short fall of home club members, the Century BC, situated in Wembley accepted a challenge from LMBA and provided a four rink match against their members on 23rd May. Unfortunately, it was played on an all weather bowling green with which the LMBA team was unfamiliar and it was wet and freezing cold resulting in a predictable win for the hosts. A problem has been the loss of the

LMBA Treasurer W. Bro Manny Lee, who had acted as LMBA Tour Secretary for a number of years. The incumbent LMBA President, W. Bro John Laurence, has picked up the

pieces and is acting as his own Tour Secretary. During the summer months, there are matches to be played against five Masonic Bowling Associations; Bedfordshire at Luton on the 20th June, Berkshire at Wargrave on the 27th June, Surrey at Sutton on the 3rtd July, Northants at the Herts. BC., Watford, on the 10th July and Buckinghamshire at Herts. BC Watford on the 7th August. A return match against Buckinghamshire will be played at Denham on the 27th August. The third Masonic Annual Charity

Event (MACE TROPHY), the Inter- Provincial Bowls Charity Competition is to be played on the 9th August at the Chesterton Bowls Club, St.Andrew’s Road, Cambridge under the patronage of R.W. Bro Rodney Wolverson, Provincial Grand Master of Cambridgeshire. This trophy competition was founded by the LMBA (mainly due to the extraordinary efforts of W.Bro Ian Keech) The LMBA are the present holders. Matches are due to be played against Enfield BC on 18th August, Kings Langley on 5th

September and the LMBA President’s bowling club at Arnos BC in Arnos Park on 12th September. The Annual Triples, Pairs and President’s Charity Day ie., Australian Pairs Competitions will be held at the Herts. BC, Watford on 18th July, 22nd August and 19th September. Full Membership of the LMBA is

open to London Freemasons and those of the Home Counties that do not have their own Masonic Bowling Association. In addition, membership as an Associate Member is open to wives, partners and family members up to the age of 25. The association would be pleased to welcome applications for both Full and Associate Membership. Please apply to the LMBA Secretary, W. Bro. Peter Frost, telephone no. 0208 363 3099. Full Membership is a modest £12.00 per annum and Associate Membership is £6.00 per annum.
