by Lord Weinstock at GEC in 1985. At the age of 36, with the Saudi

experience behind him, Paul married to his wife Jean. A year later his son Ian, (now a police officer) was born, followed in 1986, by his daughter Kay (a civilian worker with the BTP) and in 1989, by Murray [who suffers from autism]. Seeing opportunities in the burgeoning computer world, Paul moved to Western Digital Corporation and rode the wave of the modernisation of the eastern bloc in the post-Soviet era, travelling extensively. Seeing an opportunity, he set up on his own, in 1999 and his company, Kingswood Marketing, became a runaway success, but in 2002, Paul was diagnosed as having bowel cancer. Despite a near brush with death he came through on the other side. This examination of his own mortality caused him to think and by 2006, the company was sold and he was retired. He now felt that he could finally scratch that itch which he had identified at graduation, of wishing to do postgraduate research, and he was granted a place at Goldsmiths, University of London - almost 40 years after being awarded his first degree! But what of his masonry? We

already hinted in the article's preamble that his first dealings with masonry did not impress him and he was very reluctant when his father suggested he should join him in Spencer Park Lodge. Eventually however, he succumbed and was initiated at the age of 27. Three years later he was in Saudi, but the lodge was helpful and encouraging and he was allowed to progress through to the Chair in 1982. He then became its Secretary for 12 years, before becoming an active Grand Officer in 1996 as AGPurs. As one can see from the inset brief cv, he was also pursuing a career in Sussex and Surrey but it is his work as a VGO and later VO and SVO that he considers made him bankable as someone who sorts things out. In 2003, he spearheaded the saving of a dying Royal Arch Chapter by exporting it to Hungary, (three meetings a year at your own expense!) where after five years it

became Chapter No. 1 of the new Hungarian Constitution and Paul a Hungarian Grand Officer (PGSN). But what about the future? High on

his list of priorities is raising the profile of the Royal Arch within Craft masonry and making sure that as many Master Masons as possible become aware of the importance of this essential element of pure Antient masonry - through a variety of initiatives. He is equally passionate about ensuring that those already in Royal Arch masonry get the maximum enjoyment from this aspect of their Masonic life with, probably fewer but, much stronger Chapters.
