Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union TECHNICAL REVIEW
This edition leads with a report on the ABU Digital Broadcasting Symposium 2013. Beyond expectations, the annual event attracted the largest number of delegates and industry players since it started in 2005. The event involved conferences, parallel workshops, exhibitions and webinars.
Technical articles for this edition have been contributed by Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) and the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE).
The RTHK article highlights the need for planning and development in the new digital environment, also the techno-economics aspect of the future media world.
The SMPTE article describes the Unique Material IDentifier (UMID) application, its potential to be the core of media IT infrastructure and the project conducted by a SMPTE study group to adopt the standardisation of UMID within the industry.
The current issue also includes a report on the 9th Global Coordination Conference held in Tunisia.
In addition, there are our regular features, news from the region, updates on digital broadcasting and new broadcasting equipment.
