HELP US SPONSOR OUR FIRST CHILDREN’S BOOK!

We’re excited about a children’s book project we’re involved in, and think you will be too!

Coming soon…a professionally illustrated, 32-page book for young children, featuring a delightful story about a little boy named Curtis who has an adventure in Coronado (initiated by a visit to our Museum) while visiting here with family. Along the way, Curtis finds out that learning history can be fun. The last several pages of Above Coronado will include easy-to-understand text, historic photos and postcards from CHA’s collection, showing what Coronado was really like in 1911.

As CHA is helping to produce this fine book, we are offering the chance to our members to add a special family personalization or memorialization at the end of the book. Wouldn’t your children or grandchildren be thrilled to see their names inscribed at the end of this beautiful book or wouldn’t you like us to help honor the memory of someone dear who helped you create great Coronado memories? Quality books are expensive to produce and CHA is seeking donations of $1000 to $3000 to help defray costs while offering you your own special personalization.

Above Coronado author and illustrator Joy Raab produced the charming, full-color drawings and text for Kate Sessions: Mother of Balboa Park, a beloved children’s biography that has been read in hundreds of San Diego homes and classrooms, and illustrated another equally beautiful local children’s book, Balboa Park: A to Z.

Mary Gartner, Museum Store Manager, is looking forward to stocking Above Coronado in the store, just in time for the busy tourist season this summer. It will also be available elsewhere on the island and in San Diego.

Contact Bruce Linder or Pam Crooks at (619) 435-7242 for further information.

Call us to learn more about this project or to see an example of what the book will look like. Your gift will not only help us produce our first, high-quality children’s book, but will also make it possible for CHA to explore future book publishing opportunities… all about Coronado's history and heritage.
