Membership in civic, service or community associations should be treasured commodities – these organizations offer the comfortable means to keep you connected with neighbors and friends while also helping you steer the community ahead in the way you think best though your participation and ideas. It is in this way that a membership in the Coronado Historical Association is a membership in Coronado. If you treasure our community’s heritage, our village atmosphere, our inspiring history, our children, our veterans, our essential local businesses, our historic homes, and our city’s window to the world through our visitors – then look no further than CHA’s imprint across all things Coronado. We reach into the hidden corners of the past to excavate old stories that make a difference in newer times, we support the arts and education, and we constantly celebrate Coronado … plus we’re pretty cool … and we thoroughly enjoy our chance to bring all of this to you.
Thank you all for an awesome Celebrating Coronado History gala at the Marriott in late February. That new format, pioneered just a year ago, has proven to be a perfect chance to
meet many of your favorite friends around town and join in an extraordinarily worthy cause. Our event co-chairs, Carolyn Ayres and Barbara Schmelzer, had a superb vision for the evening and they brought that to radiant reality. It was an evening which will be well-remembered by all. This has proven to be a substantial fundraiser for us, allowing us to conduct many of our educational programs for Coronado schoolchildren.

Since 1969, when the last ferry crossed the bay, CHA has been preserving and sharing this island’s history. We proudly embrace the past, while looking towards the future. We hope you’ll agree that our new logo better reflects who we are, as we help sustain the island’s Village atmosphere.
Have you noticed our new Wine & Lecture series on frequent Friday evenings? Sensational speakers, intriguing subjects, wonderful observations, and a glass of wine before you head out along Orange Avenue for your dinner reservations. Stay tuned to announcements of upcoming topics.
Speaking of a new series of things – we are also contributing a succession of bright new stories about Coronado history that appear online. We call it the “Field Guide to Coronado History”
and they are a blast for us to research and write. These stories are designed to be different from others that we provide in publications around town. Our goal here is that of a History Detective. We ask a “Who-What-When-Where-Why”
question, research the answer, then present it as a short, easily read, classy vignette. Nothing heavy; just a brief, fascinating, informative read. Our investigative reporting appears weekly on eCoronado, CoronadoPatch, and
WelcometoCoronado.com – each a wonderful supporter of all things Coronado!
