Carrie Huber, long-time supporter and friend of the Coronado Historical Association and Visitor Center, died February 13, 2013, at the age of 89. For 10 years, Carrie shared hospitality and kindness to those visiting the town she loved so dearly.
Carrie's personality stood out in a special way to so many people. A member of The Greatest Generation whose formative years took place during the deprivation of the Great Depression and World War II, Carrie’s disciplined nature of hard work and contribution to others never diminished--even after the death of her husband chief petty officer Charles Huber.
Her contribution to the community, love and care for friends and family and enjoyment for life’s simple joys is a lesson for each of us. “Carrie was truly one-of-a-kind in every way, but above all else it was her genuine love and caring for others that we'll all miss,” said Mercy Mandelbaum, a neighbor of Carrie’s who also works at the Visitor Center.
