tion in Colombia decreased compared to 2009 and stood at 62,000 hectares (1 hectare (ha) = 100 a = 10,000 m2 = 0.01 km2 = 2.471 acres). In Peru the area covered by illicit coca bush increased by 1,300 hectares to reach 61,200. Tere was no significant change in the culti- vation of this plant in Bolivia, which is 31,000 hectares, representing 20 percent of the illicit cultivation of the plant in South America1 Te North American countries—especially the United States—

Europe and South America are the biggest markets for illicit cocaine. Most cocaine produced in Colombia is sent to the United States, while cocaine made in Bolivia and Peru, is supplied to Eu- rope and countries of the Southern Cone of South America.
