ARE YOU THE NEXT RADIOHEAD, JESSIE J OR LEONA LEWIS?
Trinity College London’s Rock & Pop exams and songbooks can help you achieve your musical ambitions.
If you’re an aspiring musician heading for a career in the music industry, our Rock & Pop exams and songbooks will develop valuable skills and techniques to set you apart and help you achieve your dreams.
Available for Bass, Drums, Guitar, Keyboards and Vocals, our Rock & Pop syllabus is suitable for musicians of all ages, whether self-taught or taking lessons. The exams and songbooks are graded so musicians can progress through nine levels. You can start at the grade you feel is right for you, depending on your level of skill.
Songs you love to play
Best of all, the Rock & Pop syllabus contains a range of songs you know and love – from classics such as ‘Money’ by Pink Floyd and ‘I Walk the Line’ by Johnny Cash all the way through to modern hits including ‘Crazy in Love’ by Beyoncé, ‘Use Somebody’ by Kings of Leon and ‘Umbrella’ by Rihanna.
If you don’t fancy taking an exam but still want to improve your skills, the songbooks are a great learning resource on their own, with hints and tips, background information about the songs and a range of extra information including copyright, playing in a band, writing original songs and more.
Songs are also available as individual download bundles that include the sheet music, backing track and demo track for the song. New songs will be

added to the downloads store regularly, so watch out for songs from artists including Adele, Mark Ronson, Taylor Swift, Arctic Monkeys, Take That and Maximo Park.
Take it from the professionals
We worked with a number of professionals on the development of the exams and songbooks, so they have been designed by real musicians who know how to progress in the music industry.
You’ll perform a set list of three songs in your exam and each song will demonstrate important skills and techniques. You’ll also complete one of two ‘Session Skills’ which each assess a key skill for rock and pop musicians – Improvising or Playback.
Play in a band?
Rock & Pop Certificate exams for bands are available at three levels – beginner, intermediate and advanced.
