John William Kipping was born in North Shields, Northumberland on 21 October 1872. Entering the Royal Navy in October 1899, he attained the rate of Chief Engine Room Artificer 2nd Class in July 1910 and was promoted to Acting Artificer Engineer in September 1910. Strangely in view of his promotion, it was as a C.E.R.A. 2nd Class that he served on the protected cruiser Hawk from February 1913. He was killed on 15 October 1914 when the vessel was torpedoed and sunk in the North Sea by the German submarine U.9. The ship, part of the 10th Cruiser Squadron on the Northern Patrol, became a target after she had stopped to take on mail. His L.S. & G. C. was awarded posthumously in June 1915. Richard James was born in Knighton, Radnor on 6 January 1877. Entering the Royal Navy in January 1899, he attained the rank of Chief Engine Room Artificer in May 1915. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1914. He served throughout the war on Tyne.


Robert Barton Whalley was born in Preston, Lancashire on 9 June 1878. Entering the Royal Navy in July 1899, he attained the rank of C.E.R.A. 1st Class in June 1917. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1914 on the light cruiser Philomel. Served on Sparrowhawk, September 1914-December 1915; Victory II, January 1916-June 1917; Furious, June-November 1917; Victory II, November 1917-November 1918.


George Francis Tucker was born in New Brompton, Kent on 22 May 1879. Entering the Royal Navy in April 1900, he attained the rank of C.E.R.A. 1st Class in November 1917. Served on the protected cruiser Sapphire, July 1914-October 1917; awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1915. All with copied service papers.

John Abraham was born in Portsmouth on 10 April 1880. Entering the Royal Navy in August 1901, he attained the rank of Chief Engine Room Artificer 2nd Class in August 1914. Served on the escort sloop Honeysuckle, June 1915-May 1917; awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1916 and ‘recommended for good service performed during the period 22 November to 19 December 1916’. Invalided due to tuberculosis on 1 October 1917, he died on 2 September 1918.


Alfred Watkins Taylor was born in Greenwich, Kent on 18 April 1877. Entering the Royal Navy in February 1899, he attained the rank of C.E.R.A. 1st Class in October 1918. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1919. Served on the old battleship Triumph, August 1914-January 1915 and the destroyer Test, August 1915-April 1916 and July 1915-November 1917.


Edward Golighlty was born in Gateshead, Co. Durham on 19 April 1882. Entering the Royal Navy in January 1904, he attained the rank of E.R.A. 1st Class in August 1916. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1919 when on the battlecruiser Lion. Served on Hyacinth and Zanzibar, April 1915-September 1917.

Michael Curnow was born in Merthyr Tydvil, S. Wales on 1 January 1875 and entered the Royal Navy in September 1899. During the war he served on Euryalus, July 1914-December 1917; Whiting, December 1917-June 1918 and Virago, June-November 1918. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1921.


Wallace Henry Thomas Stevens was born in Portsmouth on 13 March 1889 and entered the Royal Navy in July 1904. During the war he served on the old battleship Queen, June 1914-April 1916 and the battlecruiser Renown, September 1916-November 1920. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1922 on the light battlecruiser Courageous.


Alfred Ernest Triggs was born in Devonport on 26 February 1890 and entered the Royal Navy in May 1911. During the war he served on the scout cruiser Skirmisher, December 1913-September 1918 - 7th Destroyer Flotilla leader based on the Humber. Awarded the L. S. & G.C. in 1926.


William Reginald Harper was born in Gillingham, Kent on 31 March 1893 and entered the Royal Navy in August 1908. Served on the destroyer Syren, June 1914-May 1918. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1926 on the battleship Queen Elizabeth.

John Alfred Bending was born in Chatham on 3 1October 1887 and entered the Royal Navy in August 1912. Served on the gunboat Dwarf, June 1914-August 1916, lated based at Pemboke and Vivid. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1927.


Albert Victor Lander was born in Devonport on 29 May 1888 and entered the Royal Navy in January 1904. Served on the armoured cruiser Shannon, Ocober 1911-April 1917 and the destroyer Porcupine, May 1917-March 1919. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1927.


William Taylor was born in Newcastle on 16 April 1890 and entered the Royal Navy in February 1912. Survived the sinking of the old battleship Formidable, 1 January 1915. Later served on the destroyer Zephyr, April 1915-August 1916 and October 1916-July 1917 and the minesweeper Heythrop, July 1917-March 1919. Was mentioned in despatches. Loaned to the South African Navy, 1921-28.


Hugh Thomson Hyslop was born in Glasgow on 11 March 1897 and entered the Royal Navy in January 1913. Served on Vivid and Indus prior to serving on the battlecruiser New Zealand, February 1917-February 1919.
