Charles Henry French was born in Norwood, Surrey on 29 March 1850. Entering the Royal Navy in March 1880, he attained the rank of Engine Room Artificer in March 1881. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1890 aboard the armoured cruiser Warspite - flagship of the Pacific Station. Invalided in April 1895. With copied service paper.

Edwin Francis St. John was born in Saltash, Cornwall on 29 December 1858. Entered the Royal Navy in September 1880. Attained the rate of Chief Engine Room Artificer in August 1893; promoted to Artificer Engineer in 1898; Engineer Lieutenant in 1905 and retired as Engineer Lieutenant Commander in July 1915. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1891 aboard torpedo cruiser Cossack. With copied service paper and later service details.

Henry Martin Richards was born in Islington, Middlesex on 18 November 1850. Entering the Royal Navy in April 1876 he attained the rank of Chief Engine Room Artificer in April 1888. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1891 aboard the guardship Asia. Pensioned in May 1896. In the 1901 Census he is listed as a ‘Seagoing Engineer’. With copied service paper.

Pensioned in December 1900; re-called, November 1915-March 1919. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1893 on the torpedo cruiser Fearless. With copied service paper.


Samuel John Trevathan Blagdon, from Plymouth, attained the rank of Acting C.E.R.A. in November 1890 and pensioned in 1906. Recalled as a C.E.R.A., August 1914-April 1919. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1894 on the torpedo gunboat Boomerang. With copied service paper.

Served on Philomel, December 1894-March 1898, seeing service in Benin 1897. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1894 on the battleship Empress of India. Demobilised in May 1916. Awarded the 1914-15 Star trio.
