Top Five Questions to Ask When Considering a Home Renovation

BY LIZA HAUSMAN, HOUZZ.COM

1 Should I renovate my current home or just sell it and buy my next one?

If you’re considering renovating your existing home, regardless of which neighborhood you’re in, you’re probably not alone. Over the next two years, 75 percent of D.C. area homeowners who were surveyed by Houzz.com said they plan to decorate or redecorate, 49 percent are building

an addition or remodeling, and another 7 percent are planning to build a custom home. These num- bers are higher than the national averages of 72 percent and 40 percent respectively for decorat- ing and remodeling, but significantly lower than the national average of 10 percent for custom home construction. Clearly, many of your neigh- bors see plenty of added value to renovating or adding on to their current homes.
