And remember there are some special, limited edition puddings that will only be available at the Christmas Fair itself.

Christmas Fair

Please don’t go straight home after the Carol Service on the 14th December. Support the girls and the school by joining the festivities at the Guild Christmas Fair which seamlessly follows the service. We shall be running a mince pie and mulled wine stall and selling cakes, biscuits, jams, preserves and chutneys. All contributions welcome so please get cooking. Donations can be brought to the fair or dropped off before the service.

Jack Petchey Speak Out training

On Wednesday, 24 October, 53 Year 10 students undertook the Jack Petchey Speak Out training. Via various imaginative activities the girls prepared and delivered 2-minute speeches. The SpeakersTrust trainers thought that “The vast majority of girls delivered speeches to be proud of”. Amongst the feedback on the day were the fol- lowing pupil comments: “To-day was really awesome. I feel good speaking to people,” wrote Subah Sabur whilst Madeline Adams confessed, “At first I didn’t want to take part in this “Speak Out” but now I have done it the day was really fun, interesting and I have learned a lot”. Additionally, Paige Birch stated “It was fun, effective and helped me to learn new techniques to make my speaking more effective” and Zinzy Lawson penned, “I think it was a very good workshop and I think it will benefit many people”. All the participants will be able to add the Speak Out training certificate to their NRA folder.

At the Year 10 and 11 assembly on Friday, 26 October, 7 commended girls found the courage to deliver their speeches. Celine Amadou-Douah & Shannon Beecher, G; Hannah Stevens, R; Eve Crawley & Melissa Umolo, T; Shannon Coray & Roanna Edwards, C, spoke to a sympathetic, attentive and encouraging audience. Whilst the adjudicators were intent on assessing the speakers’ delivery, content and structure, those in years 10 and 11 who had experienced the training appreciated fully the effort involved. Mrs Nataraj, Mr Shaw and Olusheye Adebayo (a former finalist) judged that Shannon Beecher and Eve Crawley should proceed to the Westminster and RBKC finals. All who heard the girls speak, will wish them well on December 12 at Cardinal Vaughan Memorial RC Boys’ School. Ms McMellan
