Grey Coat 2 Issue 25: November 2012 Headteacher's let ter to parents

We held our annual Prize Giving ceremony last week to celebrate the achievements of our Year 13 leavers, our Year 11 cohort from last year and the many individual prize winners who have excelled in different areas of the curriculum. It is a very special occasion steeped in history and tradition, and one which we very much look forward to each year. We are very proud of the achievements of our students and Prize Giving is a time to recognise their many achievements and their contributions

reading, the KS5 and 4 buddy system, Christian Union, politics club and much more. I would like to thank the prefect team for all their work and for their contributions to the continued development of the school.

A quiet moment of collective worship before the ceremony ends

The Prize Giving ceremony was performed before a packed audience of parents, staff and students

to the school. We were delighted that so many ex-students were able to return from university to attend the ceremony and that so many parents were also able to be there.

As well as awarding prizes, Prize Giving is also an opportunity for us to reflect on and give thanks for the events of the past year. Our Head Girl, Esther Ounounou and her team of deputies, Errol Moore-Amaadzie, Aneeqa Rahman and Shayane Lacey, presented their review of the year. They, together with the whole prefect team, have worked incredibly hard over the past year organising the talent show, the travel club, paired

The students benefit from such a wide range of opportunities here both through the curriculum and thanks to our extensive extra-curricular programme. I am very grateful to the staff for their dedication and commitment which ensures that the

students’ learning journey is so rich, challenging and rewarding.

We regularly have visits from Old Greys and we are always delighted to see them. Whether they are 18 or 80, they say the same things about the school and why it is so important to them. Firstly they were expected to work hard; secondly they were taught to behave according to values; thirdly they were given fantastic opportunities here and finally, that there is a strong community at Grey Coat and they made lasting friendships which have lasted throughout their time at school and beyond. We are very proud that these key priorities are still as strong today.

The Guild organised our annual Barn Dance last month which was very much enjoyed by parents and students. They are currently planning for the Guild Carol service at St Stephen’s on 14 December at 6:15pm followed by the Guild Christmas Fair at the school. We are very grateful to the Guild for all they do to support and fund-raise for the school. Please do come along to the carol service and let the Guild know if you would like to be more involved supporting at events or attending the Guild planning meetings.

As you will see from the calendar section at the back of this newsletter, there are many events leading up to the end of this term. I look forward very much to seeing you at one or all of the events.
