Research has shown that families can save more than £400 per year simply by switching to frozen on the ten most purchased items in the supermarket. Choosing products including whole chicken, spinach and salmon can save significant amounts on the weekly shop without scrimping on quality.

Saving the planet The waste reducing benefits of frozen means that it is likely families will save even more by not throwing away uneaten ingredients every week. Figures from Defra suggest that the average person spends up to £26.68 per month on food that they ultimately throw away. Frozen food can be stored for several months without losing any goodness which could mean an end to wrinkly peppers and shrivelled up onions at the back of the fridge and a significant saving to boot. In addition, frozen ingredients, in particular fruit and vegetables, are easily portioned and can help you to cut down on waste from your family’s plates by only cooking what you need. The rest can go back into the freezer for the next meal and you won’t end up with half a bag of sprouting potatoes or several half used packets of wilting herbs.


Don’t scrimp on nutrition and flavour Despite common misconceptions, choosing frozen food for its waste and financial benefits doesn’t mean sacrificing quality, flavour or nutrition for your growing family. In fact, frozen food is frozen at its peak which means that all those valuable nutrients are locked in from the start and food doesn’t start losing its good- ness on its way to your shopping basket. This is backed up by nutritional analysis research which demonstrates that there is no significant nutri- tional difference between frozen and fresh alterna- tives and that frozen food is as effective as fresh in providing family nutrition.
