Welcome Welcome to the Christmas edition of Mum’s Survival Guide!
Wow, what a confused year it’s been! On the one hand, we’ve experienced the unbridled celebration and unforgettable scenes witnessed at incredible events such as the Olympics, Paralympics and the Diamond Jubilee. Juxtapose this with the persistent recession that has surely touched us all, and the awful events, both man-made and natural, that we’ve seen at home and around the globe. This year really has reminded us what a truly wonderful, but also testing world it can be.
In some ways, the Christmas season encapsulates that same mix of pleasure and pain! There is the joy of giving, the wide- eyed excitement of your little ones and that unique, warm glow that only comes from being together with family and friends (along with a glass or two of sherry!), all offset by having to be a domestic Transformer, rushed off your aching feet from October until January 6th (surely the most dispiriting date of the year), keeping warring factions at an uneasy peace. And of course, the expense! But I wouldn’t really change any of it, and I’d bet a melted After Eight found down the back of the sofa, that you wouldn’t either. This is life in all its contradictory glory!
This edition of Mum’s Survival Guide may seem similarly contradictory. On some pages we’re advising you how to save money and be cleverly frugal and on others we’re suggesting ways of spending the cash you’ve saved! In our defence, we have sourced some incredible value gifts and products to make this Christmas as memorable as ever (and not because you’re still paying for it next September).
Do take advantage of the fabulous 15% discount offered by the Great Little Trading Company on page 17 – my family loves their products. And a particular mention to the simply gorgeous Lottie doll on page 10. My niece fell in love with her at first sight, but for me, the wonderful thing is that she is like a ‘real’ little girl and reinforces an incredibly positive message. Well done to the manufacturers and a big thank you for the exclusive 20% saving they are offering to you, our readers!
We hope this issue points you in the direction of some fantastic gifts, a few smart tips and a whole lot of fun activities, because that’s what we try to do. We wish you a really lovely Christmas and we’ll see you in 2013!
Best wishes, Victoria Howdle, Editor
