Pasty fever hits the town!

Mexican visitors add touch of spice

A NEW event could be added to Redruth’s cal- endar following the suc- cess of the town’s first ever Pasty Festival. Local food, drink and entertainment were all on the menu for the three-day event at the Fair Fields,

Children were able to take part in the ‘make your own pasty’ activ- ity in the town centre and there was a mass pasty picnic in the Fair Field.

On Sunday there was a morning walk around local mining heritage sites, starting at Basset Stamp House.

Among the stars of the festival were the team of 13 Mexican pasty makers from Re- druth’s twin town of Real del Monte, who gave locals a taste of their take on the great Cornish tradition, which, inevitably, in- cludes chillis!

Their skills date back to the time when Cor- nish miners, migrating to South America in the 19th century, took a taste of home with them.
