AUG 2012
at the Bosley Brangier Open House
$425 raised on June 28 for Maryland Association for Wildlife Conservation – so far! Fundraiser to continue until August 15, photos by Christine Dolan
Over 60 people found their way to Trish’s new atelier in a funky, converted fl our mill on South Talbot Street. Hunts represented included Aiken, Andrews Bridge, De La Brooke, Elkridge-Har- ford, Green Spring Valley, Howard County-Iron Bridge, Marl- borough and Wicomico.
Trish Bosley welcomed fox- hunters to her new location for custom clothier Bosley Brang- ier in St. Michaels. The event was a fundraiser for the Mary- land Association for Wildlife Conservation (MAWC), which works with legislators and reg- ulators to protect and promote foxchasing in Maryland. Trish gave several talks, including a deconstructive history of the frock coat, a code-breaking session about buttons and the cuts of jacket skirts. In between sessions guests could win door prizes for correct answers to foxhunting trivia.
Despite the sweltering heat, most everyone stayed for the bet- ter part of the afternoon, trying to get in as many of the ses- sions as possible. In addition to browsing Trish’s extensive collection of fabric samples, visitors could shop for jewelry, art and antiques from the Vintage Fox or pick up a foxhunt- ing classic from Norman Fine, publisher of the e-zine foxchas-
inglife.com. Norman Fine also gave a wry talk on the concept of “proper” foxhunting attire, illustrating the challenge with confl icting quotes from respected authorities and treasured tomes. The event raised over $400 for MAWC, and Trish will continue to dedicate 10% of her foxchasing-related sales to MAWC until August 15.
Trish, carriage driver Michelle Novak, and dressage rider (and Equiery contributing photographer) Pam Link discuss options for a custom driv- ing coat for Michelle.
During cocktails, guests en- joyed ice cold vinho verde while MAWC president Jay Young talked about the chal- lenges facing modern foxhunt- ing and what MAWC is doing to ensure the sport can contin- ue in Maryland. Of particular interest was the proposal by DNR to extend the fox shoot- ing season, which MAWC is opposing, as it would allow for the shooting of pregnant vixens or vixens with kits in her den.
Stock Tie Smackdown! Patty Sasscer, MFH (Mar- lborough), saddle fi tter Gina Perilla, and HICBH honorary secretary Crystal Kimball debate who tied the prettiest stock tie the fastest. They all lost!
