Incat Crowther’s FSV design will be chartered by Petrobras

fitted with remote control. A moon pool is also fitted and there are mounts for a removable luffing A-frame with 20-tonne capacity. The vessel is powered by a pair of Caterpillar

C32 Acert main engines, each producing 1,600hp. Propulsion is by a pair of five-bladed propellers. On trials, Outer Limit achieved a loaded speed in excess of 22 knots. Service speed will be 20 knots and range will be 1,800 nautical miles. Manoeuvring is enhanced by a pair of Wesmar bow thrusters.

Incat Crowther is proud of its on-going collaboration with RDM and Offshore Unlimited, which has resulted in a third progressive utility vessel, offering the operator even greater revenue earning potential. Incat Crowther spokesperson Stewart Marler

told OSJ that Outer Limit and the FSVs award “demonstrate market confidence in Incat Crowther’s offshore expertise.

“Incat Crowther’s success is founded on the model of ‘robust ideas’. The company has a proud history of developing forward-thinking concepts on a robust foundation, allowing the company to

evolve and offer innovative solutions with best- practice engineering and service,” he said. “This allows us to consistently deliver optimum results over the long term.”

Incat Crowther was formed in 2005 by the merging of Crowther Design and Incat Designs – Sydney. Both these companies trace their history back some 40 years to their original founding by Lock Crowther and Phil Hercus respectively.

Incat Crowther has grown to employ over 30 people in two offices in Sydney and Morgan City, USA. The US office tends to deal more with the monohull side of the business, as this fits their history and experience; whilst the Sydney office tends to fit the catamarans. The two offices do overlap, however, and both offices are in a position to assist the other office in any project. Incat Crowther’s first foray into the offshore supply market was with Offshore Pride and Offshore Pioneer in 1983. Over the years, it has had a few notable workboat projects, such as CB1 and CB2, the rescue boats working at Hong Kong airport. Later, it made a real splash with Seacor Cheetah

and Seacor Cougar. “A lot of the values of our services and products have always applied to offshore vessels, it has been a case of bringing these values to the market. The two Seacor boats were big news in this regard,” said Mr Marler. Now, the company is seeing two market areas flourish – servicing offshore oil and gas installations and windfarm support. Asked how Incat Crowther’s projects evolve, Mr Marler says it varies. “This stage can be the first step to a successful project. At one end of the spectrum, a tender process is instigated. Sometimes this tender process gives us leeway, and sometimes it doesn’t. “When there is leeway, we have the freedom offer our best

to ideas, and the operator

can benefit from our ability to configure the vessel to best meet their requirements. At the other end of the spectrum, operators come to us to ask us to develop a vessel to their requirements. We take such a process with a great deal of responsibility, as the operator is relying on us to use our experience and expertise to offer them a vessel that is rugged, efficient and profitable. “Quite often they give us the leeway to studies that will guide

many aspects of the design, from the size and number of vessels required, to the propulsion packages installed through to the arrangement and aesthetic aspects. Whether it is an exact brief or an open design in our hands, we are always looking to use as much of our experience and expertise as the framework allows to ensure they get the best product. “We believe we have great products and a great service to offer, and are always looking to bring this to new clients. Having said that, this is not a new market for us. Our monohulls and catamarans have been working in this industry for many years. It means we are reaching a broader client base and making them aware of our products and service,” he concluded. OSJ
