Fallpipe ship completed by thriving builder


Singaporean shipyard Keppel Singmarine, part of Keppel Offshore & Marine, is on schedule to deliver a new-generation fallpipe vessel to Dutch company Boskalis. The group has also secured several other orders recently


ue to enter service shortly, Rockpiper, Boskalis’ new fallpipe ship can carry 24,000 tonnes of rock and is equipped to carry out precise rock dumping work in water depths of more than 1,000m. Equipped with a dynamic positioning system, the 159m, double- hull vessel can be navigated very precisely whilst lowering rocks through a fallpipe at a controlled rate in order to provide protection to cables and offshore pipelines.

A naming ceremony for Rockpiper was held on 28 January 2012 at Keppel Singmarine. The yard’s relationship with Boskalis dates back many years, with successful deliveries of various newbuilds, shiprepair projects, the ‘jumboisation’ of a trailing suction hopper dredger and a number of upgrading projects. At the time that the new fallpipe ship was named, Keppel was also upgrading the dredger Taurus II for Boskalis. The design for the new fallpipe ship is a


completely new one. It has a rock dumping capacity of approximately 2,000 tonnes/hour and can dump rock to a depth of 1,500m, if required. The fallpipe itself has an inner diameter of 700mm. The sophisticated new vessel has diesel-electric propulsion comprising three main diesel generator sets and an auxiliary diesel generator set. The accommodation is on the fore ship and is arranged for a complement of 60. The rock dumping equipment that feeds the fallpipe is arranged in the mid-ship area along with a moonpool. The fallpipe is innovative too, having its own integrated survey


remotely operated vehicle (ROV). Yards in the Keppel Offshore & Marine group have an established track record of building specialised ships with a wide range of designs and functions. In March, Keppel FELS (KFELS) entered into a letter of intent with a repeat customer, Floatel International Ltd, to build a new-generation harsh environment accommodation semi-submersible worth US$315 million. Due for delivery in July 2014, this will be Floatel’s fourth accommodation semi-submersible from Keppel, following the delivery of Floatel Superior and Floatel Reliance in 2010 and the order of Floatel Victory in 2011. The new semi-submersible will be based on the Floatel Superior design, a DSS 20NS design developed by GustoMSC and Keppel FELS’ Deepwater Technology Group. Equipped with DP3, it will meet the most stringent rules and regulations for worldwide


operations


including the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. When completed, the new unit will be able to accommodate 440 persons in single-bed


cabins with ample recreation areas as well as offices. Well equipped with a host of facilities, the unit is also suitable for construction support during new construction, maintenance activities or for decommissioning projects. Other


recent orders have seen Keppel


Shipyard secure floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) upgrade projects from long-term partners SBM Offshore and Bumi Armada Berhad (Bumi Armada). The combined contract value of the two projects is S$170 million (US$136 million).


The first project is from SBM Offshore, to refurbish and upgrade the FPSO Xikomba. Work on the unit is expected to be complete by the third quarter of 2013. The second project will see Keppel Shipyard modify and upgrade Bumi Armada’s FPSO Armada Claire. This


includes


refurbishment and life extension works as well as installation and integration of topside modules. Work is expected to commence in the third quarter of 2012 and be completed in the fourth quarter of 2013. OSJ


Technip awarded pipeline installation contract in China Technip has been awarded a pipeline


installation contract by Offshore Oil Engineering Co Ltd for the Liwan 3-1 shallow-water project. The project is in the Pearl River Mouth Basin, China Sea, at approximately 300km south of Hong Kong, China.

link the Liwan gas platform to China National Offshore Oil Corporation's (CNOOC) Gaolan gas plant.


Technip’s scope covers the shallow-water portion of the development project. It includes the installation of 160km of 30in export oil/gas two- phase pipeline from the Liwan gas platform to a


water depth of approximately 70m.


Technip’s operating centre in Singapore, in liaison with the project engineering office in Shekou, China, will execute the contract, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2012. Offshore installation will be carried out by Global 1201.
