Pack Teddy bears

“You’re never too old for a teddy bear!” exclaims the Headmaster’s wife, Catherine Harris, of Sandroyd School, Wiltshire. Ted- dies feature in every dorm room, however old you are. At Millfield Prep School, Somerset, the Housekeeper uses the teddies as postmen: pupils returning from lessons find letters from home clutched in the bears’ paws. Mrs James, Matron at Terrington Hall School, North Yorkshire, has lent many a ted- dy to pupils in need of a hug and encourages children to bring comfort blankets from home, or just something that smells like their Mummy.

Regular laundry service leads pupils to always choose their favourite outfit! “Check the laundry system – you won’t need as much as you think (and label everything!),” says Matron Maggie Douglas, Trent College, Notts. Don’t be pressured into packing a pile of big brands. The non-uniform schools provide clothing lists and Bedales School, Hampshire, explicitly asks parents to avoid expensive designer clothes. Bryanston School, Dorset, includes a dress code.
