At the formal opening of Hall School Wimbledon Junior School’s new playground: The Levels, Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, was handed a Roman sword with which he attempted to slice the ceremonial ribbon… but to no avail. He switched the blunted blade for a pair of scis- sors and with a blow of a whistle announced the playground open!


Heads on the move


James Savile joined Leweston Prep School as Headmaster in April 2012,


formerly Deputy Head of Gordonstoun Junior School, Moray, Scotland.


This Spring, Joanna Rex took up the reins as Headmistress of Bedford Modern Junior School.


Boris opens Hall School Wimbledon Junior School’s new playground


Nicola Botterill, Deputy Head of St Mary’s Calne, will join Bruton School for Girls as


Headmistress in the Autumn.


Sir Alistair Hunter – whose parents founded Spratton Hall, Northamptonshire, in 1951 – opened the new Hunter Hall Performing Arts Centre. The state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems, electric auditorium raked seating and sprung-floor stage will transform concerts, drama and even assemblies for years to come.


Northwood College, Middlesex, has renamed its Early Years Centre as Bluebelle House and its Nursery and Reception girls will now be known as ‘Bluebelles’.


The animals went in


two-by-two… Creatures from Animal Magic travelling farm visited The Apple Nursery, Newton Prep, Battersea, for their ‘Growth and New Life’ theme.

trumps Mr Harvey


Trump, has been appointed the first ever male Headteacher of St Dominic’s School, Staffordshire. Since 1920, the school has been under the guidance of headmistresses and, in the early years, Catholic Nuns.


Music teacher Mr Bevan, Monkton Combe School, Avon, formed a choir comprising of 30 boys and male staff, all of whom declared they were unable to sing! Over a few weeks, Mr Be- van saw pupils individually to build confidence, with the new Music Centre spurring them on, he maintains that they can, in fact, all sing!


Our Lady Abing- don will welcome Stephen Oliver as Headmaster in Sept, currently Deputy Head at St Benedict’s School, Ealing.

joins Hornsby House, London, as Head this Autumn.


Frank Thompson will succeed Mike Farmer as Princi- pal at Kilgraston School, Perthshire this Sept.


Foreign exchange Three Sri Lankan teachers visited King’s


College School, Cambridge, as part of the twin partnership set up by Head Nick Rob- inson, 2007, following the tsunami disaster. The school holds a non-uniform day annu- ally and a Sri Lankan curry lunch – provid- ing Dikkumbura Sri Siddhartha School, Sri Lanka, with a new English Activity room.
