showcase Nollsy at full-throttle – ripped, raw and ready to belt out a selection of new tunes and old favourites for

ne of Australia’s best-loved musicians, Shannon Noll, returns to the road to take his

adoring fans. Noll will traverse the country

from west to east in full-band mode - a departure from the recent stripped-back shows that he performed, in the raw, nationwide. “Really looking forward to

getting back out on the road to play in front of my fans, it’s been too long,” he said.

“I’m really happy with the new

show, and I think my set is the strongest it’s ever been. Bring on the fi rst gig.” Released in October last

year, Noll’s fourth studio album exploded onto the ARIA album chart with a top 10 debut. He will be playing at the

Belmont 16 Foot Sailing Club on Saturday, May 26.

Petticoat junction I

magine a world of segregation and tent shows, an era before the term “jazz” had become a

household name, and a time when being black and female automatically placed you at

the bottom of the social pile. Despite all of this, a number

of women stood out, stood up, challenged the status quo, broke boundaries – all through music. Petticoat Pioneers – Maureen O’Brien’s new show – explores the music, the lives and the stories of these women and how

they changed the face of music, not only in their own time, but for the future. Many of the songs written,

performed and recorded by these women are still being recorded by artists today. Their music not only infl uenced the great jazz artists of our time, but inspired the music of the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Bonnie Rait and numerous artists over the decades. The show takes the audience

through the era from 1918 to 1926 and fi nishes with tributes to the great Ella Fitzgerald and Etta James. It features O’Brien (pictured), Gary Roberts, Russ Redford and guest vocalist Anousha Victoire. There will be two performances

at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Bolton Street, Newcastle, a morning show on Wednesday, May 16 and an evening show Saturday, May 19.
