STAGE 1 ALTERNATIVE WASTE TREATMENT FACILITY AT AWABA Community Information Session

Lake Macquarie’s only landfill at Awaba is nearly full. It is expected that at current filling rates, the landfill will be full within three years.

As part of the long term strategy to address this issue, Council is looking to implement a new green waste bin service to all households in the City.

As part of this new service, a processing plant (Alternative Waste Treatment Facility or AWT) may need to be built to process the collected organic green waste into high quality compost.

Council is preparing a development application for Stage 1 clearing and earthwork, on a parcel of land next to the Awaba Waste Management Facility at Awaba. An AWT facility may be built on this site in the future.

Drop-in Community Information Session As the Applicant, Council is hosting a drop-in community information session.

If you have any questions about the Stage 1 AWT development application, drop-in and speak with one of the consultants responsible for preparing the environmental assessment.

This information session is occurring before an application has been lodged. Additional information sessions will be organised after the application is completed and lodged.

Thursday 24 May 2012, 4pm to 8pm Committee Room, Council’s Administration Building 126 – 138 Main Road Speers Point

DEVELOPMENT CONSENTS GRANTED During the Period of 01 April 2012 to 30 April 2012

When did your artistic passion begin? I always drew – mostly animals – and I liked building things out of what ever was around, such as animal cages and skate ramps. T en, at the end of year 10, a teacher told me about the art course at TAFE and that’s where it all started. Describe your work. I mostly do sculpture using what I can reuse – mostly metal – and animals are my favourite thing to make. I also draw and work as a screen printer. What inspires you? Animals, fi rstly – they are my greatest love. T en, it’s all about reusing things I love to recycle. What has been your greatest achievement? I think mostly that I have created a life and that I am my own boss. I need to work very hard at times, but mostly my life is working out just nice. I like what I do and the people around me. What would be your advice for budding artists? One thing that is really free in this world is advice. Take what you want, forget the rest, but always listen. You never know where your next idea will come from.
