She has won a host of World, Commonwealth and National titles on both track and road and is hoping to add to that tally at London.Many other Cornish competitors are still waiting to learn if their Olympic dreams can be fulfilled.


They include runner Jemma Simpson, from Polgooth, near St Austell, who has raced from the Newquay and Par club on to the World stage, taking part in 1,500 and 800 metres races around the globe. Still only 28, Simpson, (pictured left), who used to live in Torpoint, is a former Commonwealth Youth gold medallist and European Junior medal winner, who missed out on an Olympic semi-final place in Beijing, by a mere five-hundredths of a second. Truro boasts one of the most prestigious Fencing Clubs in the country and has high hopes of being represented in London. James Honeybone, (21), is currently the No.1


ranked sabre-fencer in the UK, with 21-year-old Sophie Williams, silver medallist at the Commonwealths in Melbourne two years ago, at three.Their colleagues, Katherine Kempe, (22), Louise Bond-Williams, (30), and 38-year-old top coach Jon Salfield, are also in form and could yet make the British team.
