Liskeard mayor: ‘A very special day’

A big welcome to everyone on this very special day. Liskeard has risen to the honour of hosting the 2012 Olympic Torch on its epic journey around Britain and produced a programme of events to match this. Our thanks are due to the Torch committee led by councillor Christina Whitty, town clerk Andrew Deacon and special thanks to cllrs

Steve Barret and Katrina Dawe for their hard work. There are events on The Parade, Westbourne Gardens and at the community college sports field, designed to appeal to all ages. Whatever you do just join in. So, make Liskeard your destination, share the fun and ensure that May 19, 2012, is a day we all remember.

Saltash mayor: ‘We’re inspiring a generation’

Martin Gee

It’s an opportunity of a lifetime to see the Olympic Torch carried through Saltash as it leaves Cornwall on its way to London. Saltash welcomes everyone to join in the celebrations that have been arranged by councillor Hilary Frank. I am proud that the sporting clubs of Saltash are offering taster activities for the Passport for Sport

achievement. At 5pm the Guinness World Record attempt for the largest number of people participating in a Tai Chi lesson takes place. Join us. Our town has grasped the Olympian motto, to inspire a generation promoting a healthy lifestyle through cultural diversity and sport.
