Santa Rosa, CA. ~ Santa Rosa Junior College is pleased to announce it has received an extraordinary individual gift of $5 million from an anonymous donor to assist students in achiev- ing their educational goals. The donor hopes this gift will inspire others to support Santa Rosa Junior College and its educa- tional mission.

The $5 million endowment will generate approximately $175,000 annually in scholarship awards and will help hundreds of students each year with their education-related expenses. In announcing the gift, SRJC superintendent/president Frank Chong said, “We are extremely grateful to this visionary donor for

investing in the academic

and professional future of our students. This historic gift will have a profound impact on our dedicated students and faculty. It comes at an important time when many students are moti- vated to get a college education, but lack the financial resources.“ “The entire college community is thankful and will benefit from this generosity,” said Chong. The endowment will offer annual scholarships to students who show potential to become future teachers; to challenge stu- dents to finish their education; and to provide assistance to SRJC students who need financial help. This remarkable donation is

the largest single outright gift to SRJC in its 94-year history, and is one of the largest gifts from an individual within the California Community College system of 112 colleges.

Weird Facts & Fun Trivia - 2 Every eclipse begins at sunrise at some point in its track and ends at sunset about half way around the world from the start point.

Partial solar eclipses can be seen up to 3,000 miles from the track of totality.

Before the advent of modern atomic clocks, studies of ancient records of solar eclipses allowed astronomers to detect a 0.001 second per century slowing down in Earth's rotation.

Total solar eclipses happen because the Sun is near one of the nodes of the lunar orbit, and the Moon is at perigee at this node at the same time.
