SRJC JAZZ COMBOS CONCERT MAY 7
SANTA ROSA, CA. ~ The Santa Rosa Junior College Jazz Combos, directed
by
BODEGA, CA. ~ If you were a parent wanting your stub- bornly independent daughters to marry and provide you with grandchildren, you might set them on this turbulent course - which
guarantees them
multiple suitors of all types (no vampires included, how- ever). With music and many surprises, the performers of the American Dream Players brings their hilarious roman- tic comedy "Love Bites" by Janey Hirsh to Bodega. After too many dark years,
the tiny, charming theater in the back of Bodega's Casino tavern is re-opening with
"Love Bites". Long-term owner Evelyn Casini, with the help of her grandchildren Brad and Brandy, has re-taken the Casino business and re- opened the theater, which was sorely missed by the commu- nity during its long absence. Huzzah!
Performances of "Love Bites" run June 1st-24th, Fris. and Sats. at 7:30, with two matinees closing weekend on Sunday, June 24th, at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Reservations are strongly advised, and can be obtained by calling (707)538- 7543 or 478-1994. See you there!
Bennett Friedman, will pres- ent their spring concert on Monday, May 7 at 7:30 PM in Newman Auditorium on the Santa Rosa campus. The concert will feature pianist Grant Levin as guest artist. Featured works will include two new Friedman arrange- ments, “Song for Bilbao” by Pat Metheny, and Fats Waller’s “Jitterbug Waltz”. Grant Levin will be working with SRJC jazz students in afternoon classes, then join- ing the three combos for the evening concert.
Mr. Levin
has taught jazz piano at Chico State University, and current- ly resides in San Francisco, where he performs with his own trio as well as with major Bay Area musicians. Proceeds of the event
benefit the SRJC Foundation Music Department fund. Admission is $5. Parking on the SRJC campus is $4. Tickets will only be available at the door. For further infor- mation, please call 527-4249.
