2011 MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

MORGAN HIBBERT NOMINATED BY: ALEX DAVIS

ACCOMPLISHMENTS • 1st Place, CUC - Open • Finals MVP, CUC - Open • Captained a qualifying team at the USA Ultimate Championships

• Elected as Captain of Team Canada Open for WUGC2012

Morgan has been active in elite Ultimate

from a young age and has consistently raised the profile of competitive Ultimate in the B.C. community. He was a founding member of the legendary club Team Fisher Price around which an entire generation of then-junior Ultimate players rallied. He also assisted that team to victory in CUC2005 and WUCC2006. He was a captain of the UBC Open team during its peak 2004-2006 seasons, during which UBC qualified for the USA Ultimate College Championships, becoming one of the first two Canadian Open teams to do so. In 2004 Morgan was also a member of the Canadian National Mixed Team, picking up a silver medal at that tournament. Morgan Hibbert recorded one of the most outstanding seasons in the Open division in 2011. After sustaining a severe and permanent wrist injury in 2010, Morgan was forced to re-train himself to throw with the opposite hand. Despite this impediment, Hibbert led Furious George to victory at the 2011 Canadian Ultimate Championship and personally won Finals MVP honours. Moreover, in their first year without legendary captain Andrew Lugsdin, Furious posted some of their best results in four years with Morgan Hibbert at the helm, qualifying yet again for the USA Ultimate Club Championships. He has become and continually reaffirmed

himself as one of the most recognizable Canadian players of his generation. In addition to

Morgan’s on-field work mentioned above, he has also invested tireless effort behind the scenes as the contact and frontman for Furious George. He personally handles all correspondence with governing bodies, organizes field relationships at the local level, team finances, sponsorships, uniform deals and design. He is among the most recognized, and most contacted canadian Ultimate players for all world and USA competition issues. These jobs he has taken on often fall into overlooked and unappreciated role. This public identity speaks to his embodiment of the spirit of the game - playing hard while building meaningful, respectful and important relationships with one’s opponents.
