Behaviour Logs Unfortunately, the PE department also has to

put students onto the behaviour log. We want this to decrease and would appreciate support and encouragement from you as parents or guardians to help with this. The graph indi- cates that the most common reasons for these logs are for ‘Equipment’ (ie the wrong type of PE kit, or failure to bring any to school) and for missed detentions, which is an automatic punishment for forgetting their PE kit. Check your child’s planner regularly or put a copy of their timetable up where you can see it, and note which days are PE days. No more excuses for forgetting PE kits! And let’s see if the bleep test scores go up as a result!

The PE Department

Sports Leaders Award) class will be working with Hamborough Primary School. Year 3 children will be coming to Villiers to take part in sports activi- ties which will be organised and led by students who have completed the JSLA.

Borough Athletics is an opportunity

for students from schools across Ealing to go to the amazing Perivale Athletics Track to compete in Athletics competitions throughout the term. Villiers High School had some great results in the cross country competition earlier this year, and we expect to have even greater success with all long distance events at the Borough Athletics! In order to be selected, it is performance in lessons that decides the se- lection teams. Tell your child to perform well and concentrate in lessons in order to stand any

chance of selection. SPORTS DAY!!! The end of the sum-

mer term brings one of the most important events of a PE teacher’s diary....Sports day!! It is one of the most exciting days of the year with the entire school coming together to cel- ebrate commitment, team spirit, hard work and success.

Summer Sports NEXT TERM we will be moving into

our summer sports season. This means Rounders, Cricket and Athletics! There will be plenty of opportunities to be in- volved in extracurricular clubs which will help to improve your child’s skills and knowledge of these, and many other games, increasing students’ assessment levels as well as help to improve their Bleep test scores.

Sports Relief

Building wells changes lives Villiers intends on raising money this year

What are you going to do for Sports Relief?

THIS YEAR the PE department will

be running special events to raise money for Sports Relief - the well known charity committed to fundraising for good causes worldwide through sporting activities.

for Sierra Leone in West Africa, which is in desperate need of being able to provide clean water to its citizens following decades of civil war.

The only way to do this is by building more wells across the country so that people no longer need to walk for many days just to get something we at home simply go to the kitchen for.

This is a fantastic charity that provides life changing opportunities and support to people the world over; many of which we may often take for granted.

Every £30 we raise will be enough to build another well!

If you would like get involved with any of our charitable events then please see Mr Strutt who can tell you more.

Our fundraising achievements and how we did them will be published in next term’s newsletter.

WOHAA 2012 lessons learned for Year 12

FOLLOWING THE SUCCESS of

two teams from Villiers High School last year at the WOHAA awards; it seems sadly, that they were a hard act to follow. Four teams comprising of five students

signed up enthusiastically for this year’s chal- lenge. Now just one team remains ‘Team Mis- sionary’ who, at the eleventh hour submitted their snapshot project to the judges for consid- eration.

Take responsibility and manage your time

Their enthusiasm for The Wings of Hope

could not be doubted, and their motivation to run ambitious events was clear from the start. However, for so many young people, time- management and taking responsibility for one’s own actions with added school pressures turns the whole experience of something like WOHAA into a life changing one. One only needs to read testimonies from last year’s win- ners.

Commitment and strong moral values The team’s resolve to run a modest last min-

ute campaign within the school, was born out of a genuine sense of guilt in letting those less fortunate than themselves down, having made a commitment to do something positive. This underpins the sense of strong moral val- ues and principles between this delightful group of girls, who intend on entering again next year. More on this in next term’s school magazine and newsletter.
