Head of House and Learning News Year 8 options evening
THIS term’s Year 8 parents evening was well received by those who attend- ed, the focus being Year 8 subject op- tions for next year.
With just over 70% turnout from parents we would like to thank the staff and student helpers for their hard work and contribution. The subject seminars were well attended, and parents who would still like some clarification on anything regarding subject choice, pathways, and careers should contact their child’s Head of Learning or member of SLT at the earliest convenience.
Parents of Aquila house students had the high- est turnout at 78.3%, with Cygnus at 75.9%, Phoenix at 74% and a disappointing show from parents of students in Pegasus at 68.8%.
Aquila reign supreme for spring term
Aquila has had a fantastic term inatten- dance, achievement and house points.
They have left Cygnus behind in 2nd place by a huge 144 achievement point difference, with two of its forms AQ1 and AQ3 in the top thre- for achievement. Aquila is top for attendance
and house points too with AQ9 the top form for clocking up 31 house points this term.
All four houses fell short of achieving the school’s attendance target of 97% this term, with Aquila achieving 96.5% - just short of tar- get. Last term’s newsletter featured some news on how there is a direct correlation between attendance, achievement and performance.
In order for your child to succeed and perform
at their best, it is vital they attend school every day; as their performance improves, their mo- tivation to learn improves, and their attendance will improve as a result of this.
Heads of Learning Spelling Bees come 2nd in close run contest!
programme designed for post GCSE Year 11 students to participate in after taking their exams.
The Challenge for Year 11 THE CHALLENGE is a summer
Three action packed weeks have been de-
signed to inspire and connect young people from across the country through a range of ac- tivities, team building exercises, university led projects and by putting something back into their own local communities.
Life changing experiences for all
The first week involves a huge range of out- ward bound activities such as abseiling, rock climbing and canoeing to name a few. This is a time when all the young people will get to know each other, make new friends, learn leadership and team skills, to get fit and have lots of fun. Alumni from The Challenge say that it is a truly life changing experience; it gives you a real taste of what it will be like when it’s time to head off for university.
The second week is a ‘university life style’ tast- er week, designed to develop young people’s knowledge of what uni life will be like, what to expect, learn subjects never studied at school before, and to really build confidence.
Week three is where the programme aims to get the young people more involved in their local communities; to find out who they really are, and to identify ways to improve quality of life for everyone. This would include design- ing projects for local charities.
This experience of a lifetime will be one that sixteen Villiers students will never forget, and one which couldn’t prepare them better for life in the future.
Good luck and have fun!
THE 2nd ANNUAL Spelling Bee competition took place at Greenford High School last month, with a top team from Villiers gunning for top slot against other Ealing schools.
The team went in the hope of repeating last year’s victory for their school. There were two rounds in which the teams had to partici- pate, with three from each team representing each round. Abdirahman, Sabir and Henit went first, and then Abdirahman, Sabir and Feroze competed in the second round.
Villiers ‘aced’ second round
Following each round the teams were given their scores and ranking. Despite Villiers achieving 5th place in the first round, the final round was worth the extra effort and brainpower; even the judges said Villiers ‘aced’ in the second round and fully de-
served reaching second place overall. 3
We WILL win Feroze Faisal said that coming second
was disappointing because, in his words: ‘we never got a trophy, but at least we got med- als and
certificates...and we WILL win next time folks!’.
They worked brilliantly as a team and caused
a bit of a stir when Abdi and Sabir attempted to flirt with/bribe the female judge by telling her how nice her hair was!
