VILLIERS HIGH SCHOOL

Newsletter magazine for parents and the whole school community Spring 2012 Edition Issue 2 www.villiers.ealing.sch.uk

Dear Parents THE SPRING TERM is almost

over, with time passing incredibly quickly since last Christmas. It has been a busy and productive term, with exams, well attended parents evenings, preparing Year 10 students for their work experience next term, and reminding Years 11, 12 and 13 that countdown has already started when it comes to their GCSE, AS or A2 exams.

Attendance this term at 94.3% has fallen

short of target by 2.7% so still work to do here, in particular with the 6th form stu- dents who are showing some improvement, but still have a way to go. Girls have beaten the boys in both attendance and achieve- ment points this term, so let’s see if the boys can outperform them next term!

With the weather unseasonably warm, to

end the spring term I can honestly say that we have a lot to look forward to and to feel optimistic about in the coming term, and es- pecially from September.

The Easter holidays is a time for a well earned rest; however parents of students scheduled to take their exams next term must be extra supportive and encouraging - ciently and proactively throughout the Eas- ter break. Every day must have dedicated revision hours set aside, no matter what; this being the last hurdle before the exams start in earnest.

The effort will reap the rewards! Please be aware that hay-fever season

is now upon us. With this in mind please ensure that if your child suffers from hay- fever, that they take their medication each day before coming to school. If your child needs to take any form of medication in school hours then it must be prescribed by their GP. Shopped/Chemist bought prod- ucts will not be allowed in school.

I hope you enjoy reading this term’s news- letter publication, and wish everybody a pleasant Easter break. See you next term.

Graduation pride in achievement

FOLLOWING completion of the

Strengthening Families Strengthening Communities 13 week programme; eighteen proud parents came to receive - nors Shahid Khan on 16th March.

Guests who attended the ceremony to cele- brate the graduates’ achievement learned more  impact it clearly had on its participants.

Shahid Khan is passionate about increasing parental engagement at the school, and encour- ages all parents to get involved in some way, including considering being a parent governor.

Young people are ‘digital natives’ Deputy Headteacher Phil Masterson de-

scribed the key aims of this programme are to reach out to parents and strengthen the part- nership between parents, children, the school and wider community, saying: ‘Young people in the 21st century are ‘digital natives’ where so much of their world is on-line, we need to remember the world they are growing up in is increasingly complex, and with so much tech- nology – we need to understand their world.’

One proud mum said she felt so proud to tell her children about her achievement, and recommends this and the Family Links Nurturing programmes to all parents.
